I’ve been asked so many times whether a client should have airbrush or traditional makeup. Well, today I am going to talk more about the differences to help you make a good decision.

First of all, what is airbrush makeup, and what is traditional makeup?

Airbrush makeup application uses compressed air to gently spray foundation across your skin using specially designed foundation cartridges or formula that fit into an airbrush device.

There are four different airbrush makeup formulations, water-based, mineral-based, silicone-based, and alcohol-based.

YA Artistry uses silicone-based airbrush makeup. It provides better coverage and lasts longer than water-based or mineral-based airbrush makeup. In addition to the long-lasting feature, there are more benefits of silicone base makeup; it is water resistant so even if you tear up or sweat on your special day, your makeup will stay. It is also lightweight, natural looking, and closely mimics skin’s natural texture for a flawless, beautiful finish.

Airbrush makeup, feels very lightweight if applied properly since airbrush makeup is applied by air through an airbrush gun. Most of my clients have told me it makes them very relaxed when the makeup is sprayed on their face.

Traditional makeup application uses a range of makeup tools like brushes and sponges to apply liquid, cream, or powdered makeup.

The traditional foundation we use is silicone-based as well. (Shop our favourite Foundation HERE) As it was mentioned above, it lasts all day, blends seamlessly for sheer to full coverage, it can improve the appearance of your skin texture, and make your skin appear smoother. I’ve actually received some feedback from photographers that my clients’ skin looks amazing with the makeup already that it doesn’t require much retouching.

So going back to the initial question, what is the difference between airbrush and traditional makeup? And which one should you choose for your special day?

Some people say the difference is the airbrush makeup is lightweight and makes your skin look flawless, while the traditional makeup can sometimes look cakey. I 100% disagree with that. If you don’t apply any type of makeup properly, it can look extremely heavy and cakey.

So it is really all about the tools that used for the makeup application, the artist’s experience and skills, the technique, and customer’s individual feeling.  Especially both airbrush and traditional makeup that we use are silicon-based, the result can be very similar with the techniques we use. Still can’t make decision? Here are the quick reference list breakdowns to help you decide.

Choose Airbrush makeup,

If you want extremely light weight makeup but want coverage at the same time (less product for maximum coverage)

If you never tried airbrush and are open to trying new things

If you want to experience the relaxing process

If you simply just love airbrush

Choose Traditional makeup,

If you don’t feel comfortable with air blowing on your face

If you have extremely dry skin

(with the correct skin preparation, both traditional and airbrush can work for all skin types, however, if your skin is extremely dry, it is better to use traditional makeup as we can mix the foundation with moisturizer when applying makeup to give extra hydration)

If you simply love traditional makeup applied by traditional way

I hope my blog helped you, and whether you choose airbrush or traditional makeup, we are skilled to make you look flawless and fabulous.
